Making Neighborhood Association contact work right from the beginning.
Citywide Land Use Group will end the year with concrete examples of how Neighborhood Associations have been a positive help to strengthen communication with everyone who lives and works within the map-defined boundaries of each Neighborhood Association and Coalition segment of the city of Portland.
Sara Wright, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will explain a proposed project called Early Neighborhood Contact. The final proposal is still being structured so she can hear your ideas to help her complete the draft proposal.
The major focus of the meeting will be on the Local Improvement District process led by Andrew Aebi. Currently there are 14 already formed LIDs in the city – at least one in each Coalition area.
The important thing is how they are developed by contacting impacted residents and the Neighborhood Association right from the beginning of the work. Since the infrastructure built by the LID is paid for in part by additional funding from individual property owners, the negotiated project brings property owners together in a unique and effective manner as they work out the shared design.
Andrew Aebi, Local Improvement District Manager for the City, will be at our meeting to tell you about the approach. But almost as importantly, we will have three people from 3 different areas of the city tell you about their experiences and how a final agreed-upon project was completed.
Special guests will be:
Jeanne Harrison; Transportation, Traffic/Parking Committee Chair — Northwest District Association, Neighbors West/Northwest Coalition
Curt Schneider; Land Use Committee Co-Chair – Cathedral Park Neighborhood Association. North Portland Neighborhood Services Coalition
Steve McInnis; Owner of River City Environmental located in the East Portland Neighborhood Organizations Coalition
Join us and hear some examples that support involving the Neighborhood Association/Coalition residents right from the beginning as essential projects are developed and then take place with the involvement of residents who will be impacted.
